I want to install some blue LEDs to light the front footwells of my 96 Contour. I don't really want to just swap in a blue 194 bulb (that would be too easy ) as I want these blue LEDs to be on constantly while the car is running. I was thinking of tapping into my stereo's accessories yellow or blue amp wire. However, I don't want the (most likely) 4 LEDs to interfere with the stereo or my amp. Where do you think it is best to draw my power? I was thinking the cigarette lighter but it constantly gets 12v even while the car is off :nonono:.

I'll probably pick up these from ebay. They're $2 with shipping and I get 10 of them:

well you could tap into the headlight switch that way they are only on with the headlights at night. or with the fog lights. that way you can turn them off if the po-po is crusing near ya.

I have tried those LEDs in my foot well, they cause a hard cut off, you want more of a bar design with wide angle LEDS.

Just wire a lead from the accessory lighting circuit to a switch, then on to the leds. 6 leds per side should do all well. A flat style rocker switch would be the best to keep a clean look. If you had the time I'd wire it down by the drivers seat to keep it out of view.

actually ford and toyota offer an interior light kit that is sweet. the ford changes to four or more different led colors. the toyota/scion kits come where they change to four different colors or comes in just blue (for the scion tc) they install easy. what was mentioned earlier is in the footwell the led's slide over a plexiglass solid tube that throws out the light and it mounts easily. and is really slick. i have a kit installed in both my mystique and contour. they do not require much power as they tap right into the cig lighter/dash light circuit.
