Does anybody know of a good Air-Intake for a 1996 Ford Contour GL. I would post this elsewhere but this is the only place it will let me post? Send links for the Air-Intake

Try searching. But here's a thread to look at:

And fyi, your engine is the Zetec, which is what 99.9% of people refer to it as. And your car is considered a "pre98." So if you want to go searching to find out lots of cool things you can do for your car, you can go right ahead ;). Happy hunting!

how do you know its a zetec? just because its a GL?

I knew a girl that had a contour that looked EACTLY like my pre98, it was a 96 GL, only difference between her and my car, is that she had the duratec.

In any case, if you have an I4 (Zetec) you can just for a simple Focus Zetec air intake, this fits with very minor modification, you just need a hose coupling between the pipe and the MAF. Search "Zetec intake" on ebaymotors.

If its a duratec, just search "Contour intake" and ones for the V6 will show up, all of those work on the contour.

In 1996 I'm pretty sure the GL only came with the Zetec. The GL was the base model. I've heard otherwise, but I think only the LX had the option, and the SE came standard with the V6...

GL's with the sport package come(can come?) with v6's, mine does.

I think v6 was an option on the pre98 gl models though.

When you talk about 'air intake', are you describing the airbox with the filter inside? If so, imo there are two dgood options:

1) An induction kit (cone filter etc). Companies like Viper, K&N, Bomz do good ones for the Mondeo 4 cylinder Zetec and V6 Duratec engines, and I don't see why they couldn't fit your Contour GL.

2) A Mondeo ST200 airbox with flat panel K&N filter. This airbox has an additional air-feed to give better air flow. Not sure if the Contour SVT air box is like this, but I reckon it should have as it and the ST200 share many bits in the engine bay.

Damn, no edit function.

I meant to type, Mondeo 4 cylinder Zetec and V6 DuraTec.

Which is better? I don't know but if the Mondeo filter box is the same as a non-SVT setup then I'd have to say that the SVT setup is better.
