I have a deal pending on this car, need to call him tomorrow with a deposit. I called before pics were even available, now there are full pics and its on Ebay.
Clean, never wrecked 1-owner car. Pilot with a car collection traded this in as part of a deposit on an '08 AMG MB.
What do you think it is worth?

Holy smokes!
There can't be many like that still around!

I've been privately thinking that $10,000 was about the peak price for these cars. I'll be watching this for sure. I just have to keep my finger off the darn bid button...

If you miss out on this, I'll be offering a 99 tropic green CSVT with 20,128 miles in very similar condition soon enough.

I actually have two of them almost identical.
I'm keeping the higher mileage one (28,000 miles) for a future drivetrain swap.

I...MUST...NOT...BID

Only as a corpse.

Eventually I'll give up on it. Realistically I’m never going to find the needed time until I retire - too many higher priority “things” going on. My life got complex in the last two years.

I've considered finding a local enthusiast with real experience willing to put it all together and work with Tom for the tune. Maybe offer a big pile of cash and the complete low mileage removed drivetrain as compensation for their effort.

I’m not there yet… but getting close. I’ll put an ad in the wanted section when I’m ready.

I should have a deposit on it today but need to hear a few things back from them. The deal is JUST over what they started on Ebay for and I'm hoping I'll get it delivered for the price you guys have been mentioning.
JEDs PM sent.
Now, anybody have experience shipping cross-country?
I also found a 37k black/MB in Ohio for about $7k or a little less, That is one of my back-ups and if I get this one I'll get people contact info. on that one as its not been advertised, just a PM from another board.

Well, I have a deposit on it for $9500 with dealer fees included.
They had 2 callers that wanted to put deposits on it for the asking price of $9900+ dealer fees so hopefully I made a good purchase.
I ran a ford oasis reports (gives all warranty and dealer service) and it only had 3 reports. 2 were for AC problem and a new AC compressor with 5,000 miles and the other was for a 'dash fitment inspection'.
Could this car have the dash warp kit installed and what do I need to look for on that?
I was hoping it would have had the water pump fix, but I guess that will be my first change.
I told them I'd let them know by Friday if I want the car or return my deposit. Sounds like he was very OK with giving the deposit back to sell the car for more.

The 99's had the white impeller water pumps. It was the black impellers on the 98's that had the issues. You should be OK with this one. :)

The dash fix, most people probably wouldn't notice it unless they know to look for it.

I'd take the car. Good price, good miles...

Awesome, thanks for the info.--glad I didn't have to get into the engine right away.
I signed the papers for the car, now just a matter of flying/driving home vs. shipping.
I hope its as nice as described and I don't plan on being disappointed.
BTW, the dealer said they're happy to list it as sold to stop the calls. Several have offered more than the asking price and he told me that if I want to sell it for $11k there is a guy that has called several times and wanted me to know, so that makes me feel better about the price.
Getting pumped to have a 'new' Contour SVT.
I have test driven these on 2 separate times in the past before buying other vehicles (Cobra, SHO), so hopefully 3rd time is the charm.

I hear you, but unfortunately its going to be my daily driver, about 20-25,000 miles/yr. for the next 2 and a half years.
I couldn't find a better car for what I wanted (fun, resale, MTX, 4-door, mpg) for $9500 so I am happy. My friend is happy too because I sold him the '97 SHO I bought with 9700 miles in June.

Definitely, I will be taking them out for a nice winter set this year (any suggestions?) then have nice aftermarket set made or better, find a clean set of SVT fronts to use everyday. (Anyobody have a nice set to sell?)

Will do.
I'd like to do that and my friend has offered to fly there with me to drive back. He owes me because I drove him 9 hrs. to buy his Cobra.
Looks like $150-250 cheaper to fly out and drive back, but I'm leaning towards shipping due to schedule and hassle plus the 1400 miles on the car.

99+ SE Sports were available in Midnight Blue. However, the more common pre98 Atlantis Blue is a different color.

Not just SE Sports. I pulled some parts from a 99+ Mystique at the junkyard with a cloth MNB interior.

I'm almost positive I've seen cloth MNB in Contours before as well.

Ah, I neglected the Mystique. :(

The cloth MNB to which I was referring is found in the 99+ SE Sport (without leather option). They had a "sportier" cloth seat with a little pattern on it. I have never seen MNB in a 99+ LX/SE (which has the normal zigzag pattern cloth seats), though I could be wrong.

I leave mine in and put heavy duty rubber floor mats over top of the stock ones.

Or, as you have suggested, get a set of non-SVT ones to use. I think even if I did have non-SVT mats I would still use the heavy duty ones over top of them. OK, I'm just a freak when it comes to keeping the mats in good shape and the carpet from getting wet/dirty.

The rubber ones are best to use, as your heel, over time will wear a hole through a cloth mat.

Any particular brand of rubber mats that work well for the Contour? I've had weathertechs that were nice and I see BAT has real Ford rubber mats.

This car ROCKS.
Finally got the car home on Sunday. I had issues with the delivery driver and my work schedule and the car was finally delivered after an enclosed trailer transport from CO to OH. My wife then drove it home in a steady rain, ruining the fresh detail. Oh well, the car is still amazing. My last 2 cars were an '04 Cobra I sold with 7800 miles and a '97 SHO I found with only 9700 miles so I'm used to clean cars, but this thing is CLEAN.
No flaws in the interior and no rock chips. Only negatives were the front plate bracket holes and the D-bag original dealer RIVETED there logo on the trunk---I now have 2 holes in the trunk.
I couldn't be happier with the purchase, it makes the 70 mile daily drive much more enjoyable and it feels like your driving a special car.
Love the smooth stick, handling, sound, good mpg (I got 25.5 mixed where the SHO only got 22, and that included some 'spirited driving'). Only complaint would be the factory stereo.
OK, enough rambling, here are the pics. Sorry but its been raining steady and I've been working late, so these are the best I could do:

Unfortunately the pics aren't displaying on my browser but I take all the fanfare is over a VERY clean '99 CSVT with only 20K on it for $10K? If so, you've all lifted my spirits! You see, my '99 CSVT with 44K miles has been sitting in my garage for near the last 4 years, and aside from the blown engine (why else would it have been there for 4 years?), it's basically MINT. OK, so the dog chewed up one of the door panels a bit! But I was contemplating salvaging the car, 3.0 upgrade, or just spending the extra $1500 and having Ford put a new engine in it. I was leaning towards option 3 just so I'd have the car as originally sold and the bit of slack I've been getting from my peers left me feeling like I was crazy.

According to Bill Jenkins (who is not providing the engine), although not NEW, aside from the block, it's all the newest components (meaning it will also have the latest oil pan).

Can't wait to see how it is with the SPEC 1 clutch and flywheel when I get it back!

BTW, on my way home from work I stopped to fill up the Miata (87 octane) and I realized crap, the CSVT fillup with 91 octane for $56+ is gonna hurt! Maybe I should junk it ...

rk2k2
12-04-2007, 11:09 PM
My bad, didn't catch the 13,500 miles! Wish I could see the pics but great catch on the car anyway! All I can say is you should probably hold back on those hard right hand turns unless you at least upgrade the oil pan (unless it already has been).

Don't junk it! If you aren't going to put a new engine in, part it out. People around here are always looking for parts. Ya never know, someone may even buy the whole car from you as is.
If you keep it, put a 3L in it. Cheaper than going the 2.5 route. You can also reuse you use your UIM, etc. and can retain the stock look. Do some reading in the 3L forum.

IIRC, 3L = 87 octane.

It all depends on the tune. Almost everyones 3L on here that I know of should be running premium.

rk2k2
12-05-2007, 01:00 PM
Just to clarify, by junking it I meant I would be parting it out (or sell as a rolling chassis). As for the route I'm going to go on the repair, I've invetigated it here all the way back when it died in spring 2004, and the 3.0 route with oval port heades using my SVT LIM and UIM was the route I was going to go. But since I just seem to keep putting it off, I'm just gonna have it towed over to Ford and be done with it and pay the 5K for a new engine with warranty. As for the warranty, it sucks- 75000 mile but ony THREE years. I'l be lucky if I even put 20 on it in 3 years.

Happen to have just gotten in to work and my browser here displays the pics. NICE NICE NICE- personally I think $10K is a very good price (though I think 12.5 would be a bit high)

After reading this thread I was inspired to go out to the garage, fill the tires with air, put the hood on, and roll it out onto the driveway. Then hosed off the accumulation of dust and cob webs and now it's ready to be towed, which I'll have done once the DMD, shifter forks, and new plug wires come. Once I get it back, maybe I'll post a few pics if anyone is interested!

For 5k, I will pay for shipping your car to Michigan, swap in a new 3L, get your trans rebuilt with a LSD installed. I'll throw in a set of new headers, a new alt, new starter, new clutch and I'll pay for shipping it back to you. I will probably have it done sooner than Ford would anyways. I would never blow that much money.... either use it wisely to have a solid well built SVT with a bulletproof trans, or sell the car to me and buy another low mileage clean SVT for way less than the Ford install of that motor alone!
