Hey all, I just picked up a really nice '98 SVT for my beater. 78K miles, all stock, has all the options, in GREAT shape:

New tires, brakes, needs nothing at all. Paid just $5K cash for it! It's actually kinda fun to drive.

Is there a site or thread about mods for these cars? I used the search, but didn't find much. I don't plan on doing much, just a CAI and shifter, if they make them...

LOL, I probably should have said what my other cars were. I have them in my sig, but it's not visible for some reason. I also own the following:

2003 Mustang Cobra
1986 Mustang GT
2003 Buick Rainier
1994 Geo Prizm

If it were up to me I'd pick the Prism as my beater. :o My first car was an '89 Corolla. Same car, different badge. Mine was definitely a beater.

Welcome to the forum!

My daughter drives that more than me now, it's kinda hers, hence I had to pick up something else to drive...

In your new SVT Contour you will soon find a diamond in the rough, a real backroad beauty. A Contour SVT is sort of like what you would get if you spliced together the genes of a BMW 3-series (handling), a Subaru WRX (rally-car origins), and a mid-level Mustang (200 horsepower). It's a nice car, and although occasionally temperamental, they're tried and true as well as generally very reliable.

All mods and a complete discussion of every single imaginable aspect of this rare car can be found somewhere on this forum; just look under the appropriate sub-forum (aesthetics, exhaust, wheels & brakes, electrical, interior, etc.), and if you can't find an answer in the posted topics then post a new topic, and one of the contour-addicts here will gladly answer your question.

I think you'll love you new tour. Welcome to the forums!

A bud of mine modded his 2003 Cobra, then figured it was not a good fit as a daily short commute to work car during bad/wet weather. He sold it, even though he had yet to make his goal: break 11 flat as an ET. He's now considering a CSVT after he's gone driving with me and has seen mine at the track. Mod this car for power, upgrade your trans, add suspn tweaks, and you've got a fun little screamer with good manners. You'll miss it most of the days you drive other wheels.

And the coolant a half inch above the MIN line. I run mine to the top of the MAX line. Coolant sensor can be picky and throw the coolant light on even though it's not low. ;)

Very nice looking SVT.

Funny, that happened the last two mornings when I first started the car up! I was wondering what that was all about...

Do tell, did adding more coolant keep the light off?

B&M makes a short-throw for it, very nice mod and as far as a CAI goes, well, what you could do is use the stock airbox, cut around the part with the clamps and use a drop-in K&N filter to get the same effect, that's what I did. Your other option is to get a BAT pipe (search that) and add on either an 8 or 9" K&N cone filter to it. The 9" will go right up against the fender though, you've been warned about that. Exhaust mods are pretty easy, i.e. the resonater needs to be removed and you can either replace it with a straight pipe or a cherry bomb muffler, seriously, there's a use for them afterall:shrug: BTW, that's a very nice lookin' car for $5K!
