New Cupholders are $46? not $21?

What happended to the new contique cup holders being $21 from bill jenkins at teamfordparts.com? I went there, entered the part number XS2Z5413562BAA and it's coming up to $43.45, did I miss a GB on it or something? I also wanted to get the trunk popper acessory but I'm going to hold back until maybe the cup holder comes down in price a bit :s.

That post is from circa 2000-2001. There have been about 36 price changes since then, not including the 2 major updates per year. I know that they are much higher, almost twice what it was, but I don't make the prices and I don't gouge CEG members. Some items I can try and locate from other dealers and grab them cheaply, but not these ones.

As stated above, most likely this price will never come down, it will be obsolete before that happens.

i think that there was, the original ones where flat topped when closed and popped open, the replacement/redesign ended up not having a flat top when closed and you pulled them up with the "new" handle

I broke down the 2 models, but I have to tell you, go with the Mystique holder and Contour bezel to save money.

The originals also broke rather easily. Too bad. It is a more elegant, "cleaner" design when closed, and I had no trouble fitting, beyond 12 oz cans, reasonably sized coffee cups (up to 16 oz, I believe), medium fountain soft drink cups, and my stainless travel mug in there. True, most water bottles are a no go.

I'm also curious about what the differences are between the Mystique and the Contour holder? That Mystique piece is getting down near the E-bay going rate.

And speaking of Ebay, after pooh-poohing the idea of paying (gasp) $30 for this "restoration part" on Ebay, and after everyone telling me all I had to do was go down to my local pick and pull and grab one for $10, and after all the boasting about how you could make some fair money pulling these things out of junkyards and selling them on Ebay...

...You know what? They're already gone! I spent the better part of a Saturday going to every local yard I could find that had any Contiques, and gosh I guess somebody else figured it out before me. Easy money for somebody else. So, I guess if I want to restore this superfluous functionality, $30 or more is sounding more reasonable compared to the cost in time, gasoline, and frustration.

I actually found a pre-98 updated cup holder today at the junkyard. It was in good shape;only missing the cover.I got it for my uncle's Mystique.

I also got two post-98 updated cup holders.

Bringing this thread back up.

I picked up a Pre-98 center console from the junk yard. I'm finding many variations of cupholders and the bezel to go on top.

Now, I have 3 different SINGLE cupholder bezels. One small single cupholder bezel, and 2 single large cupholder bezels.

The small cupholder bezel doesn't fit my console correctly. The tabs on the sides to lock it in are too short and you have to push the bezel way down to get it to lock in. It obviously doesn't look right in the console.

One of the large cupholder bezels does the same thing. It will not lock into the console unless it's pushed in deep. And it still sits loose on one side. That one has a small dip in the plastic which I guess you would put your finger into pull up on the cupholder.

The only bezel that fits my console is the large one at the end.

Bill, those part numbers listed for the cupholder, are they for single or double holders? What is the actual differences between the Mystique and Contour parts?

Well, I just went outside to the Mystique and did some test fitting.

I didn't notice at first but my 2 spare cupholder sets are different. The plastic housing that holds the cupholders inside, is different on the Mystique from the Contours. As much as the look the same, and "seem to fit" they are not. The Mystique console has higher plastic stops where the cupholder drops in to. If you put Contour cupholders in a Mystique, the cupholders in the closed position stick way out.

Same thing with Msytique cup holders in a Contour. They fall deeper into the console. Those 2 bezels I have seem that don't fit my Contour console, seem to fit the Mystique just fine.

So Bill had said to buy Mystique holders but Contour bezel. That will cause the cupholder to be set in deeper but the bezel will lock in just fine.

How did this go for so long on CEG not mentioned? I see cupholders on eBay all the time being listed to fit both the Mystique and Contour. :shrug:

If I'm right, that means there is 6 variations of cupholders and bezels. :shocked:

Mystique - double cup holder, single cup holder, single revised large holder.
Contour - double cup holder, single cup holder, single revised large holder.

You HAVE to use a Pre-98 Contour console. Mystique will not fit. Part of the console is actually on the dash for the Mystique. (as shown above)

For the cupholders, you want to stick with the Contours. Mystiques cupholders and bezel in a Contour console will not fit perfectly. The Mystique holders will sink in deeper and so will the bezel. Looks cheap and broken IMO.
