pcv hose replacement?

I have a replacement pcv valve and also a new hose assembly that the valve sits in (not sure why I bought it, it's been so long). Is it straight forward to replace it, or there's a catch somewhere? I can't see the other end of the hose assembly and I don't know enough about it to understand where it connects. Should I even bother replacing it?
Also, the valve is sitting underneath some cables (throttle cable is one of them I believe), how do you guys make room there?
I'd appreciate some help,
