Okay, lets try to get something to happen here. Would 8/11 or 8/25 work for anyone?
Whaddaya wanna do? A beach trip would be fun again, but that might be a bit far for people at the outer edges of our area. Maybe we could meet partway between Portland and Seattle and take Hwy 12 east and make a loop and come back through the gorge or something? Bring sammiches or have a BBQ somewhere?
Thoughts? Ideas? Interest?

Both dates would work for me.
I know I'm not driving a contour any more, but at least I'll be in something sleek and smooth, and something that'd keep up. :)
I like your idea of Hwy 12 through the gorge. It'd be a great loop for me. I've never seen 12, but I know 97 pretty well (brother lives up in Ellensburg).
That said, I'd almost rather do an ocean trip. Is there anything to see/do out by Astoria?

I should be able to make it on the 11th, but I might have a conflict with the 25th. I won't know until we get a little closer to that date.
As far as where we go, I'm open to both of those ideas. I'll just be happy to be at a meet with some CEGers. We really don't do this enough.

If I am not a troll at that time I would like to go also. I finally dusted the car off 2 weeks ago and rolled it out of the garage after sitting since November. I picked up an MX6 and the tour has been sitting ever since. I have had it up for sale for about 4 months and have little to no hits on it. We drove it down to Grayland beach last weekend and have had it up around Mt Baker a few days this week and I am falling in love with it all over again. We forgot how well an SE can handle the twisties.

You could see the house from the Goonies, but that's about it. However, Astoria is ony 20 minutes from Seaside/Cannon Beach which have more to do.
I'm tentative at this point. I'll try.

I think squeaky cheese is more like cheese curd...but someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, it sounds like there's not one Saturday in August that'll work for everyone. Maybe we can do another meet in September, since there should still be plenty of decent weather left then. Besides, nothing says we can only do one meet each summer! We also need to get some people together at one/some of the Friday or Saturday drag nights at PIR.
Woogieman -- do you know if the 25th will work or not yet? If not, when do you think you'd know by?
I'm on vacation in Minnesota right now, so I have intermittent access to the site. I should be able to check it daily, but can't promise anything.

Okay, I'm back home again. And back to a usable internet connection. For some reason, when you sleep in your car in a remote Montana rest stop, there doesn't seem to be much for internet connectivity. Who'da thunk. And the night before, when I did have a connection, the site seemed to be down. Doh.
Eeenyway, I guess it looks like the 11th works for most people. For those unable to make it, look at your schedules for September and figure out what day(s) will work for you, whatcha wanna do, and we'll try to do at least another meet before the weather gets ugly.
So what's everyone feel like doing on the 11th? Maybe a drive to Seaside, via some nice twisty coast-range roads? We could stop at a park on the coast and have a BBQ, or everyone could just bring a sub sammich or somethin' else to eat.
We could do the Washington State Highway 12 drive, or we could save that one for a little later when the leaves start turning color this fall.
If we meet near Portland, what time of the morning could the out-of-towners be here by?
Any other ideas?
Marty
Woogieman
07-31-2007, 10:11 PM
Welcome back GrooveNerd. I am still okay with all of the ideas so far & would consider others if it would get more people to join. I hope a few of the "out of towners" respond soon so we can set up a time & place to meet.
As far as food goes, I'm a simple guy so I don't mind bringing something simple, doing a BBQ some where, or eating at restaurant. Maybe we should get a head count for this meet too?

08-01-2007, 10:25 AM
I could easily be in Portland by 8:00 or so. Not a big deal for me - takes about 1-1:15 to get there from here.
I guess I'd like to drive somewhere. I haven't been to Seaside - that'd be fun for me.
But, I realize that some may drive from a farther distance and wouldn't really want to drive much further, in which case a day of car-dorkin' it around a BBQ would be a-ok as well.
So - preference: drive to coast (or similar).

Of course you're invited. However, I'm a little nervous that when you & Derk-xB show up it's going to look like an Audi meet:) Come on Contique owners! I don't see too many of you responding in this thread.

I would like to go depending on what date and place. On the 25th we are having b-day party for my 3 year old will be 4. on the weekend before that it is blacked out for time off. We have the Lynden fair in town and nobody gets that time off.
If all wanted to do a Chuckanut drive we could drive a bit out of the way and meet end at my house and bbq. I will open my house for everyone. The only prob I see is that I am about 275 miles from portland.

GrooveNerd
08-06-2007, 11:17 PM
Is Anastasia or anyone else coming from Seattle or up that way? If so, can you be here by 9:30? If not, how soon could you be here? We could also have a meet-up window of time (9:00-9:30, 9:30-10:00 or something) and depart at the end of that period. That'd give anyone unable to take the whole day an opportunity to stop by and say "hi" to everyone.
I think last time we did a coast trip we met at the Beaverton Fred Meyer parking lot, just off of 217 and Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy. That way we're on the west side of town and not having to (potentially) fight a bunch of cross-town traffic.
The last time we did this, we went out Hwy 26, then took off south on Hwy 53, which is a nice, twisty road. If we do that, we come out pretty much right in between Tillamook and Seaside -- one is about 20mi south, the other about 20 mi north.
Another option would be to take Hwy 26 to Hwy 6, which comes out in Tillamook. Then we could check out whatever we wanted to see there, and head north to Seaside, possibly taking 53 back to 26, then out to Seaside. There'd be less back-tracking with this option if we want to hit both Tillamook and Seaside.
There are several parks along the way where we could stop and eat lunch. I don't know if anyone wants to bring a BBQ or anything. It might be simpler if we just hit a Subway or something and brought ready-to-eat stuff. Everyone can kinda do their own thing too, we don't all have to BBQ or picnic-it.
And yes, former 'Tour owners are definitely invited! :)

I like the idea of Tillamook first. How about Hwy 6 to Tillamook, then 53 up to Hwy 26, then to Portland. How long does that take? I'm not opposed to doing to Seaside, though.
I also like the idea of just grabbing something like Subway or Quiznos.

For the route, the second option I was thinking was: Hwy 26 to Hwy 6, Hwy 6 to Tillamook. From there, Hwy 101 to Hwy 53, Hwy 53 to Hwy 26, Hwy 26 to Hwy 101, Hwy 101 to Seaside. Then Hwy 101 to Hwy 26 and back to Portland from Seaside. There's less backtracking that way than going down 101 from Seaside and then coming back up 53 to go home.
For those who can't make it to this one, post what days you're available during September in the new thread, and we'll do another meet then, maybe doing the WA Hwy 12 drive or something.

Kinda crazy You own a Tour..... HELLO!
yeah, but i just bought it a few weeks ago, which set me back in cash, so i haven't been able to replace the broken windshield, worn clutch, or worn tires, so even the gas money there and back would be tough for me. Just started a new job, though, but a seattle meet would be way better for me. i'll certainly be at the bowen scharff thing, though, if any of the rest of you are.

Made it home safely, puffed-corn-all-over-the-truck mod and all. :troutslap:
I didn't even think about it until I got home, but I shoulda warned you guys about traffic on 26. I'm not sure if you guys hit it or not...it was ridiculous. West bound lanes closed off...which means eastbound lanes have to go 5-6mph for 20 miles. :help:
I had a good time, and Ashley said that you were all very nice and that she enjoyed hanging out. I was really glad she recoop'd so quickly!
Marty - great route! Thanks for letting me scare myself a little (and my wife a lot) on Hwy 53.
Bob - thanks for lunch...sir! ;) Good to meet you.
Aaron - Good to meet you, too.
Let's do it again! I should have a new 2.75" catback and perhaps a 19mm swaybar (from the S-Line suspension) by next time. I should have showed off my boost gauge, too. Next time. :)

Derk, Thanks for coming it was very nice to meet you and your wife. Although I admit she did look a bit pale after Hwy 53  .
I am sure we all enjoyed your new puffed-corn-all-over-the-truck mod much more than you did .
Looking forward to seeing you again at the next one, and you are more than welcome for lunch it was my pleasure indeed.
Your not the only one that deserves one of these:troutslap: You were behind me when I rolled down my rear window and who knows where my flag is :nonono:
Bob, It was great to meet you and your wife, it is a very small world after all. Hope you can join us on the next run, or perhaps at a track day.
Aron, and Marty I had a great time with you guys there at Seaside, and enjoyed the drive and conversation. As of now I am up for the track day. It was almost scary that we had so many similar thoughts and interests.
Need to post pics later.
Regards,
AF

Hey Derk, I got called to work because some jerk cut a hole in a fence. So I loaded up Aussie, grabbed the bag of caramel corn, and headed off to wait on the fence guy to show up and fix it. My dear wife reminded me not to do your puffed-corn-all-over-the-truck mod and handed me a large zip lock bag as I went out the door

Taking a bit-o-break after a certain mod happened on Hwy 53. I hear it is exclusive to Audi's, but that is just a rumor...... one can only hope is true

Naw, I coulda done that to any car.
I was just thinking, I shoulda turned off my ESP. Of course, then my wife would have said "TOO FAST" more than a time or two...:blackeye:

As the caption says "You know how it seems there is always a bit of a ham around......" just a little pun about ham radio..... as it turns out GN and I are both HAMS. This was just one of several common intersts we share beyond Tours.

You know my wife thought I could have easily done that mod too.. I wonder where she gets her thinking sometimes :blackeye:
When I told her about the curves her comment was "did ya feel me poking your leg and saying to slow down?" Must be a wife thing  but I gotta admit it did come to mind LOL. Guess after almost 30 yrs she's with me even when she's not

I'd try to explain all the antennae on Marty's car by pointing out the "police interceptor" badge on the back. And the next time he does bumper cars or go carts, he should bring a clip-on antenna.
About female partners telling people to slow down,... Ameshia has borrowed/driven my car a bit of late. Now that she's starting to get familiar with it, she's admitted to doing a shift at over 6000 rpm. Maybe I need to drop the rev limiter back to stock when she has the car.
It was good to meet up with everyone Saturday. Maybe it was good that my other event kept me from going to Tillamook, those who have seen me pig out would suggest there would not be any ice cream left over for you.
And "the wife" says Hello. She's leery of joining up on this site. (tee-hee - Per Ameshia)

In all fairness I should warn you that science and skill never beat old age and treachery!
Ya you young'ns show up, at times.. when ya don't mind getting run over in the cruves or knocked off the track at bumper cars....
One thing to remember time goes by quicker than you think, after all the car you drive is already obslete.... yet with a bit-o-care it will put the new models in the dust..:ponder:

yeah, you guys probably would beat us in the curves. after all, i'm a struggling student who can barely afford any upgrades, while you guys got those tricked out svt's. [/display of jealousy]

Well my young friend, be bit adventurious and come out to our next meet. I'll ensure the other old guys take it easy on you  After all being a student you are seeking knowledge, and they say wisdom comes with age so hanging out with us old guys may even further your education a bit  I might even drive my wife's 95 Z that way there will be at least two of us enjoying the scenery LOL.
After hearing about GN taking his Escourt wagon to the track and running it at PIR I came to the conclusion everything is acceptable on the road, and ya don't need an SVT for fun....... but it isn't ever about need so my next Tour may be an SVT:laugh:

Thanks, guys!
I had a pretty decent birthday. I was (and still am) on call, but it hasn't been too crazy. I went out to dinner on Thursday night instead of Friday 'cause going to a restaurant w/ my pager is the pits.
I installed my catback today. Life is good. :)

you a doctor or somethin?
Derk-xB
08-20-2007, 01:33 AM
"or something"
I'm a Physician Assistant. I only do out-patient, so I don't have to go into the hospital for call, I just have to answer my phone. Me being on call saves the physicians from helping parents with their kid's fevers, etc etc.
I do much more than that in the office, but it's pretty simple stuff on the weekends.

yeah, dude, i definitely respect that. a physician assistant (i think she was called that) saved my life a few years back. i called in seeking advice cuz of a bit of breathing issues, and after reviewing what was wrong, she told me i needed to get my ass to a hospital. i wouldn't have gone otherwise. turned out to be a nasty clot in my lungs, they got it just in time. so keep on helpin people, dude.
