OK, This is a "just saw an ad on TV and was thinking" post, so please go easy. Has anyone ever looked into putting a newer wheel, with audio controls or whatever onto our cars. Obviously there would be some wiring for whatever you want to hook up, but would the cruise control be able to be connected? Are there other problems?

Airbag wiring/connector? Airbag clock spring? Horn connector?

Each one of these is an idea killer?

Since I just changed my steering wheel and I got to see how it was setup underneath, all I can say is good luck. The wiring would be very difficult to do, mostly because of the clockspring.

If you truly feel you must do this, find the entire steering column you want with wheel and then hope that the air bag is compatable.

You you feel that you must, then it's dooable, but it may be very costly to sort it all out.

Thanks All,
Like I said, this was just a spur of the moment thought. All very useful comments should I (or someone else) decide to do this oneday.

I know this sounds really far off... But what about a Mondeo steering wheel?

Some look very nice... I'm sure the airbags are different, don't know if they are compatible or not.

Guess it wouldn't hurt [too bad] to try it out...

Airbag Delete..........I am not running an airbag in my passenger side. It's going to make a nice little area to hide the guages. [smiley/] Surely most people are more concerned with the creature comforts than I am though. I have started thinking of removing the drivers side airbag as well for some other guage placement options. [steps into flame suit and fastens securely]

Air bag removal not a good idea hope your kidding........ The reason I have just acquired this Contour is some idiot on a cell phone ran a stop sign and pulled right in front of my wife. The idiot was driving a BMW and my wife a 95 Escort. T-BONE..... The air bags went off and of the five people involved in the crashes my wife was the least injured. The idiot had to be extracted with the jaws of life and sent to a trama center. From now on I'm a beliver in the bags.....
