Alternator price

Well, my alternator went kaput. The local repair shop told me $299 for a new one. Seems high to me but I don't know. Are they trying to take all my money?

Opps, forgot to mention 1998, 2.0 Zetec.

i say save yourself a little money and do it yourself. its not that difficult on the zetec. just make sure your engine is cold. hot engine=hot alternator=burnt hands:crazy:
