Background INFO

----"My car shut off last night and i pulled this code. It showed up 3 consecutive times. Ive yet to check for the fuel pump fuse. When i turn the key to the START i dont hear the pump priming. From what I have researched, the the fuse is not within the same circuit that would cause this code, correct? and where is the FPDM (fuel pump driver module) i am not sure how to go about troubleshooting this. i will check for for the fuse this weekend and i will also check for fuel pressure at the schrader valve just under the TB. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Any suggestions?

I havent had the chance to pull the pump yet. The fuses and relay are OK. Also, has anybody just cut the sheet metal under the seat instead of dropping the tank, per the How to on the main site?------

UPDATE

I cut the sheet metal last night, pulled the pump out. the disc filter was dirty but it was not clogged. When i opened the assembly, i found the pump connector MELTED!!!. it seems there was a short at the pump connection inside the fuel tank. the balck wire jacket was crumbling with just a light touch, the male connector was fused to the pumps' female connector. looks like the black lead melted through onto the red lead of the pumps wiring at the connectors base. I am not sure if the pump motor itself is good but it measured 3 ohms across the pins. i am not bothering with it i am just going to replace the whole thing. I put this info on here as an FYI for others to look for.

Has anyone ever found a short in their tank?

What i think happened is that the fuel just broke down the plastics of the connector and wire and they just slowly fell apart until the heat melted the plastics, causing a short.

im ranting, i know.

LOL. Crystian, you shouldn't be ranting. You should be thankful. Short in fuel tank could have meant "kaboom".

My thoughts exactly...

The most likely cause of the meltdown is a bad pump motor. Most certainly replace it. Don't take chances. This would be a good candidate for the Focus SVT pump conversion.

The pump should be here today.
I know, i am thankful especially i had my daughter, mom and dad with me coming from a funeral of all things when the car shutoff.

I had almost a full tank of gas. the whole pump assy. was submerged in fuel. i guess this was a good thing. because there was no way for it to spark since the short was not exposed to air. or the computer was smart enough to shut down the pump.
