help with leather items

i just bought new boots and such. got them dark blue cause thats the darkest they had and had silver stitching. only problem is its no where near midnight blue. anyone know any ways of darkening the leather without ruining the silver thread that its sewn together with? ive heard of using olive oil but i also heard that it hurts the leather and makes it rancid over time.

There are ways to darken it, but they all would ruin the stitching, or at least make dying it a PITA.
