Initial pricing will be set today after a final talk with the machinist. The price will include everything below plus shipping, packaging and insurance.

Here are my approximations so you can decide:
Tentatively the Front kit will sell for $160
Tentatively the rear kit will sell for $150
Purchasing of both kits will allow a small discount due to combined shipping and such. Tentatively the Front+Rear $295

Okay, most of you are aware already but for those that are not:

There are actually two kits here. Front and rear.

The front kit is for brackets that allow 300mm Focus SVT rotors to bolt up to the stock Contour SVT and Most Cougar brake bracketry and calipers.

The rear kit allows you to use the Contour SVT and Cougar 278mm front rotor and install it on the back of the car, after some modifications.

Front kit includes:
2 - brackets made from 1/2" plate steel
4 - special spacers made from 300 stainless
4 - bolt studs
4 - nuts
4 - washers
4 - 12mm bolts

*All bolts and washers are hardened grade 10.9 or better.

Rear Kit includes
2 - brackets made from 3/8" plate steel
4 - spacers made from 300 stainless
4 - 10mm bolts
**4 - washers

**Depending on bolt style supplied with the kit there may be more or less washers provided. JIS flange head bolts will not require a washer**

Notes:
-You can use the same pads that are in your calipers now to save money or buy new pads.
-You should save the front rotors to use on the rear.
****You WILL have to source your own FSVT rotors whether you buy factory Ford or aftermarket. This should be the only added cost****
-The brakes clear all stock SVT 16" wheels. They will clear any FSVT 17" wheel. Some 16" wheels may need to be test fitted first.

Here is a word document with the instruction set. Pictures will be added to the instruction set and sent out with the brakes or via email.

FAQ

Will it work with the standard contour/mystique brakes?
Yes but it requires the SVT caliper bracket. ALL bigger brake contours/cougars use the same caliper bracket, all smaller brake contours/mystiques use the same smaller bracket and would have to obtain the larger bracket from the junk yard. ANY caliper from the contour/cougar/mystique can be used as long as the appropriate bracket is fitted.

What brake pads can I use?
ANY stock or performance pad used for the stock brakes. Even though you are still using stock pads the greater leverage from the bigger rotor and the heat handling capability of the system will greatly enhance braking ability.

Is this kit just as good as a professional big brake kit like TCE?
NO. The TCE kit is awesome. But you have to pay to play. This kit is an enhancement and will give the same brake performance as the FSVT hardware kit, but with better more stock like pedal feel, but for significantly less $.

Can I get just the front or just the rear kit?
Yes

What if I run into problems during installation?
I'll be available via email, PM, and possibly phone if I like you enough (j/k) to help answer questions. BigJim and DemonSVT are both experienced with the front kit and Ray can answer some questions on the rear kit.

I'm not really skilled at DIY projects. How hard will this be for me?
If you want it done get some help from someone who has some experience. Don't just pay someone to do it, be there with them, attempt the work and get their help.

How safe is the kit?
Let me say that this kit has over 8 months of performance daily driving testing on the fronts and a year of testing on the rears. There has not been one reported problem once the kit was fitted. The hardware is higher grade and as stong as I can make it. The bolts and spacers are all corrosion resistant and grade 10.9 hardness. The plates are overengineered to be extra strong.
However, this is not a DOT tested/approved kit or any of that. Many brake adaptations you can buy are also not DOT tested. Like any aftermarket part you are using it at your own risk. When you buy these parts you agree that you hold yourself responsible for assessing the quality of the parts and the quality of your installation job. If you can't do that then do not buy it.

Glad you are able to see this thing start to take off, Tom! I can't describe how pleased I am with my set, and with your work in all aspects!!!!!!!!

SO, In order to keep things clean and concise, let's make a list.

The list should include your name, and which sets you want (answer should be FRONT, REAR, or BOTH

I have already added those that stated SPECIFICALLY which they wanted and that were positive. Do not add yourself unless you are POSITIVE YOU ARE PURCHASING THESE. If you aren't sure, are mostly sure, or are "probably" going to purchase, just post saying so, I'd recommend staying out of the list..

The only thing that is weird to me with the rear kit is that the pad will still be small and only be making contact on 2/3 (guessed) of the rotor... Will that cause any problems?

Other wise im in for BOTH (front and rear).

According to the first post by Warmonger, the rears have been in use for a full year of daily driving with no ill effects. Rear pads are usually soft & don't wear much at all anyway as they do relatively little work compared to the fronts. So, I guess no high speed road coarse driving in reverse for extended periods...

Okay, I can't get the better pricing on the brackets unless I get in bulk. Thats 25 sets.
I can split it, I need 10 set of fronts and 10 sets of rears minimum before I will kick this group buy. Otherwise it costs more for the bracketry and the spacers.

So far the prices stand as I put them up.

Guys understand that this is several thousand dollars that I'll be spending on my dime to pay for this purchase and all the associated hardware. To even kick this off I need the 10/10
I will also need deposits but we'll discuss that when we get the required number of people.

Talk to everyone you know and encourage the NECO guys, since I posted over there.

I'm not going to keep this group buy on for a long time. If it flies then it flies otherwise I'll turn it off and stop wasting the fabricators time.

I also would like to get a couple of pictures posted in here of the brake kit. Big Jim posted his front brakes with the 16" rims so you guys can compare.
Ray can post a shot of his car for how it looks with 17" rims and big brakes on all four wheels.

Maybe someon can convince Demon to post a shot of his car to show how all four wheels with big brakes on 16" rims looks.

Okay, thanks for playing! Lets get the game on now.

now that you've opened this to NECO. Can we get some confirmation if these will fit our stock 16's. I imagine they will. But if any of you who have the kit already on could PM me with your address, I'd love to get a NECO guy over to see if our rims will fit, otherwise your going to have alot of hesitant potential buyers.

I want to go in on this but I just emailed Bill to try to get a price for the SVT brake brackets only so us non-svt folks can use this as well. Apparently the SVT brackets alone are $107.68 apiece wheras you can get the FSVT brackets and new calipers with pads for 146.96 apiece. Will the FSVT brackets work the same in this kit as the needed SVT brackets? If they do let me know and I'll be in for both kits for sure.

Ray
09-06-2006, 10:31 PM
My understanding is that if you use the FSVT bracket, you'll be required (at that point) to use FSVT CALIPERS and pads as well.

DyComet
09-06-2006, 10:58 PM
Well at this point it looks like it will be cheaper for us non-svt guys if we're going to buy it new to buy the FSVT brackets, calipers and pads from Bill and then pick up the rear bracket here. Am I correct in assuming this?

Focus SVT brakes:
Rotors: 2M5Z-1125-AA List $119.08 CEG $88.67 x 2
Calipers with bracket and new pads: 2M5Z-2B120-AA & 2M5Z-2B121-AA,
List $197.97 CEG $146.96 x 2
Total: $471.26
So that will get me the brackets and calipers and then the SVT front rotors are
Rotors: 93BZ-1130-EA List $113.88 CEG $84.80 x 2

Then I could just pickup the rear kit here and have everything needed correct? Sorry for thinking aloud I just want to make sure it's correct before I make a commitment to purchase and I want to make sure I'm not making a stupid mistake.

Just FYI:

I'm planning on closing the group buy this weekend, or basically Monday morning so that I can give the word to start production. I'll use the number of sets that are committed to this weekend as the basis.

I'm going to ask you all to just paypal me the money for the kits once I see at least 10 sets of fronts and rears in the group buy list and by tomorrow if we hit the minimums. Those who pay in full will get theirs sent out immediately on completion.
jbrant02@earthlink.net is my paypal

If for some reason you don't trust me and want to put down a deposit only, you will be later on the list to get your stuff in order of when you paid in full. PM me and I'll give you the minimum deposit amount. The number of people in the buy and fully paid will help determine how much cash I need to complete the purchase, hence the floating deposit amount.

Remember, I pay almost 4% fee for paypal. :( We don't want any money till we are sure the number of people are ready to go.
Friday we'll do a final list of people ready to send the cash that day and we should have at least 10/10 of those too.

I intend ordering and production to start Monday, with delivery of many parts by that Friday. THen with no delays I'll start shipping right after.

I don't know about that. The FSVT setup is offset 4mm for us contour guys but might not be offset at all for the regular focus guys. The question then would be is the offset already built into their brackets or not?
Also, what size stock rotors do the Focus guys run?

That's two questions that would need to be answered before we could attempt it.

Pole: I'm sorry but group buys are pains in the asses when you don't keep all the work in-house. I'm dealing with four different companies over the bracketry, spacers, and mounting hardware. That makes coordination tougher.
Too much stress when I already work, have an engine project in the garage, and tune engines now as well.

So, I'm taking advantage of some off time but I don't want this crap hanging over my head for two months while people get their stuff together.
I also am going to take vacation so I want to get the materials constructed beforehand or else there will be a two-week period that nothing will get shipped.

I have thought of this but right now the costs are high. I also have to pay for the prototype brackets, two different runs :( that has to factor into the costs.
I will order extra but it just depends on how much money comes in. I'm already in the hole on my own coin, to the point.

For those of you who want to get in on the buy but are hurting for cash at this point: You may pay a partial deposit to help offset the costs and I'll give you a specified time to pay the remainder. I'll hold on to the stuff and when its paid in full I'll send them out to you. I can only afford to do this for a couple of people so please only do this if you MUST.

Right now the list is starting to look good though.

Just so you know, the pricing quotes are based on 25 sets of front and rear brackets each. The fabricator is already checking on how the price is going to change for runs of less than 25 sets. I hope it only affects it a few bucks per set but who knows. :(

No, the rear calipers do fit on the bigger rotor.
It doesn't look bad, trust me! :D

You just take a nice bit of silver high temp paint and paint the inside hate of the rotor on the rear, then use some solvent to clean off where the pad rides on the outside of the rotor. Or just mask it off with some tape the thickness of the rear pad and paint everything. I used Thermotec on my rears to prevent corrosion and match the silver wheel. Then I used Black VHT to paint the caliper brackets. The following pictures are from Demon SVTs car.

I'm in for the rears. I have wanted front and rear all along.

I'll post pictures of my car with the wheels on the ground this weekend when I'm home. I want to add though that the picture of the car standing still is only part of the improved looks. I was watching the car on the dyno when I had it smogged a few weeks ago and noticed just how good the brakes looked with the wheels spinning.

I also want to add just how much better the brakes are with the larger front rotors. My subjective opinion is that the stopping distance improved about 15%. Beyond that, the overall braking feeling is greatly improved. This is a modification that won't disappoint you.

I don't know how the wilwoods are bolted to your car right now but if they have the same bolt offset then probably. You would have to check how it would fit up.

Mike

I can only speak for the VOA brake kit which uses the wilwood caliper, and SVTF Rotor, but the way you mount the wilwood rotor using their kit is by using a bracket similar to warmonger's backet, but its designed specifically for the wilwood caliper and the 300mm rotor. So the only way this would work for you would be if the wilwood caliper you have mounts directly to stock hardware with a stock rotor. Then clearance becomes an issue, with stock cougar wheels I can only fit a washer between the wheel spokes and the my wilwood caliper.

So, in short, I imagine that you should go wtih rears only.

Mike

Mike, the Wilwood caliper is a totally different animal than the stock caliper. Both kits out there that use the Wilwood calipers use seperate intermediate brackets sized for thier respective rotors (depending on whether you have the TCE or VOA kit). warmonger's front brackets are designed to be used w/ the stock CSVT caliper to put it over a stock FSVT rotor. You are confusing two completely different setups.

All that said, the rear brackets will balance out pretty well functionally with any of the front upgrades available, making for an overall better balanced setup than a front upgrade alone. For example, the rear upgrade will balance well with my current Focus SVT front brakes, but it will also balance well with the 13" Brembo front kit I currently am working on.

Hey, those of you who are stating you are prepared to pay this weekend:

I'm trying to get it via paypal. If you can't or won't do paypal then priority mail with a money order will work fine but I will need it by middle of next week when I have to go pay up for this stuff. This doesn't replace the need to get at least 10/10 paying via paypal, which gives me money in hand to pay for starting production. So if you can pay via paypal, do it.

I'm ordering a few extra sets but those of you with hard times, you need to submit 50% down and then I'll hold the sets for 30 days from when I would have been ready to ship them. After that 30 day period if they aren't paid for then they'll be up for sale.

So far so good. The group buy is going to go through now.

Payment for those who are paying electronically should be paid by Sunday evening. IF something happens where multiple people don't pay up, I'm going to pull the plug on it and refund the money.
I hope I'm not sounding mean, but I will be playing with a lot of peoples money and I don't like doing that for people who drag their feet. I want to look at this as a commitment, a solemn word from someone and the deadlines are set to protect everyone involved. It also means that those who are serious get their product a lot quicker.
Thank you to all who are participating for your trust, support, and patience. I won't abuse it. :D

I wonder is there any benefit to having the bigger rotors on the rear then? You really are not taking advantage of the larger surface area of the rotor by using the stock rear CSVT caliper and you increase the rotating mass on the rear wheels. However if I guy was to use front CSVT calipers then you would probably have to get an adjustable proportional valve for the brakes because of the pressure increase needed to operate the front CSVT calipers on the rear... or am I wrong in my thinking? Thoughts/comments?

Wow.

The advantage is the 1 inch increase in diameter of the rotor. That positions the pads out about 13mm further and increases the lever arm of the brake system on the rear.

TCE has a nice calculator for this stuff to calculate front brake bias. I used it in determining the benefits. This front and rear rotor increases alone will retain essentially the same brake bias as stock, assuming you have stock pads front and back AND continue to use stock pads, and provide significantly more stopping power.
If you just put the FSVTs on the front you get a more forward brake bias transfer. So yes, you get more stopping power from these however the majority is from the fronts, as it is in stock setups.

If you put the CSVT calipers on the rear and on the front you'd be driving a dangerous machine! There is a reason the OEM designed the caliper piston sizes, and that is because you don't want that kind of clamping power on the rear. If you want more clamp power then you can upgrade to a rear pad that has more cF "bite" then stock but believe me you won't be disappointed. Even TCE uses stock rear calipers with bigger rotors.

Hey, I thought it looked good too, but if you don't like it don't buy it.

I had looked at the Baer 13" kit and didn't want to buy 17" and didn't want to spend like $800 for the front brakes. I was going to do a basic paint job of 1500* flat black barbecue paint. It's really good stuff and affordable. That is the same way I shipped the prototype kits and it would be very basic, rough edges, etc. You can't see the bracketry at all anyway when installed. On the other hand a powdercoat is much better. If you guys want to paint them with your own stuff or color scheme, then that is better for me. Just tell me in your paypal that you will paint them.

I would be willing to bet some people who havent paid will do so tomorrow. There are members who dont seem to get on CEG during the weekends (the bored at work crowd ;) ).

In any case, I cant wait to get mine! I need to get my car back together already. I have to wait on a few other parts to arrive, but Im hoping the all come in near the same time so I can get my car back on all 4 wheels.

After that I will come back and update them after I receive a notification from paypal.

Nope, you made it. I will be taking the numbers I have in this list at 08:00 this morning with me on my way to work. That is basically the end of the group buy.

If there are any other people who want in on this buy but missed this deadline then we start a new list of "hopefulls".
I'm going to make a few extra and the people on the list who have not given a deposit to reserve a kit and have not yet paid in full may have a chance to buy one later. Once I decide on how many excess kits to buy it will be first come first serve for anyone who wants them. There won't be many extras though but I'll see what I can do.

To the rest of you, Thanks. This group buy went off well after all and kinda restored my faith in the group-buy process. I'll get cracking on getting parts ordered today and I'll give one status update after that is done with a basic estimate. I'll give a status report every 3-4 days after until production is complete. Then I'll alert you of expected shipping time. For those of you with deposits, that is when your hold time starts.

Have a good day all.

Brackets are on order. Spacers are on order and bolt hardware is mostly on order. I have some more to get worked out but so far so good. I'm shooting for a one week production time frame but we'll see how that goes as I'm at the mercy of the bracket manufacturer right now.

*******************************************
Group buy is closed because I've already submitted the numbers.

If you want to snake a slot from someone else who is on the list but not yet paid, contact them by PM. IF they tell me they will not be able to pay for the kit and keep their slot, then I'll put the person into it who contacted them.

This should be fair for those who aren't able to log on very often where they will have a chance to say Yay or Nay on staying on the list.

Those of you who are on the list but have not yet made payment or 50% deposit arrangements will need to make arrangements with me, or by the end of the week if I haven't come to an agreement I'll open the slot for someone else. Anyone with a <paid> next to their name is good.

I hope this is fair enough to all involved, please don't paypal any money unless your name is Positively on the list I just posted and you're completing a transaction.
If you are in the cash-now situation but aren't on the list then PM me first or go to someone on the list as described above.

For those of you who missed the group buy, contact those people on the last posted list that do NOT have a <paid> by their name. If they won't be able to make it then you may arrange to take their place.

I listed the reasoning behind the limited group buy window earlier on in this thread so you can read up on it and probably understand why.

Hmm, rear installation seems more difficult than I had imagined. Not too hard, but more cutting/griding than I had pictured.

Im going to have to find someone with a chop saw, as I have none! Or will a handheld grinder like the red one in the pics work for widening the rear brackets? That, I have.

RandyCSVT
09-12-2006, 01:27 AM
what are my chances of getting this done with a big dremel? I dont have access to the tools pictures, and I don't know what a chop saw is. I am willing to grind away at a rotor for hours if that is what it takes though.

Could you recommend some dremel bits that I could use to get this done? I might have access to a cordless drill, but I have had better luck with a corded dremel. Cordless drills don't seem to last very long when grinding away at metal.

After some deep thinking i came up with that i dont need this kit, i already paid in full for my spot and all. Im not backing out but if theres anyone that wants my spot you can pm me and we can make something happen. I put in for both front and rear kits. Thanks and sry.

Its a great product, just not needed to me.

warmonger
09-12-2006, 10:02 AM
I did the first bracket with a dremel setup. Takes a while. The second one was done the chop saw method and it went very fast.

It really isn't that hard with a dremel and stones and a drill.

Any good carbide bit will cut through any of it too.

The handheld grinder will work for much of it but deep inside you will have to use the dremel.

Also you guys are forgetting that the thinner the rotor the less issues. Just turn down your old front rotors to just above min spec (if they aren't there already) and it will almost fit already. I had to do all that with brand new thick rotors that I only took off .020" off each side.
All you are doing is clearing areas that touch as you test fit. Should be easy for most of you.

Also the notching of the rear spindle may be unnecessary as I designed an indentation in the rear bracketry to accomodate it. Very little will be needed.

You can take an unpaid slot right now. Anyone without a paid next to their name on the last list is now open to replacement. Deposits or full pays accepted.

Those are the slots right there except for one extra set that is spoken for. There will be no other kits and right now I have no intention of doing this again.

Here is a better picture of the rear bracket and what needs to be thinned out, courtesy DemonSVT.

I've updated the rear instructions with this pic in the right spot so those of you hosting could you please take the updated copy and host it?

I will also post it here so we can generate any discussion about what actually needs to be done and make it easier and simpler to understand.

http://www.rumodded.com/warmonger/rear diagram.jpg

As you can see the inside area or cutout where the rotor fits is not Square; rather it's wider at the top and tapers inward toward the rotor face. So the first step is to square these tapers up.
The second step is to thin out the crossbar section...this is what the chop saw method was ideal for, just use it to apply slight sideward and outward cutting pressure and it will widen easily.
You can do it with various die-grinder and/or dremel cutting bits it just takes a bit more time.

Wear gloves if you can and safety glasses.

ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES FOR ANY OF THIS WORK!!!
Personal true story:
I've learned the hard way in the past when I was grinding and got about three little pieces of hot metal stuck to my right eyeball. Little pieces of hot steel that were essentially melted when they came off the grinder cooled and solidified on my eye. I could even see one of them, foggy looking in normal sight...and it didn't really hurt much when they hit only a little later.
Try sitting in the hospital with you eye numbed and head fixed in placel as a doctor uses a large size hypodermic needle to try and pluck the pieces stuck to your eye off. I could stare out the room down the hall and as he hooked the needle under the edge of the piece of metal the whole eyeball would distort and my vision would look like that magnifying bubble screensaver they used to have, everything curved and distorted.
Later on it really really hurt..... So take this for what it's worth, I still have my sight but I might not have.
:(

Oh, the custom spacers are now complete, I'm going to pick those up this morning. Bracketry is taking longer, probably due to shop workload. I don't expect them before middle of next week at the earliest but I'll push to see if I can't get it sooner. I'll know more on that when the fabricator calls me back.

warmonger
09-18-2006, 07:54 PM
Okay, bolt hardware should be in by Friday, or perhaps Monday of next week.
The estimate on the bracketry is looking like the end of the week as well.
As I said the spacers are already done.

Please bear with me as these are only estimates and I'm working with 2 different vendors on the bolt hardware as well as the fabricator.

Okay, I was not able to get all the bolt hardware today. One of the batch of bolts for the rears that came in was not corrosion resistant and therefore I did not want to accept the order. The bolts that came in were a bare steel bolt that would rust in short order. The store is correcting the problem and ordering the correct bolts. Should be middle next week. The brackets are also not yet complete.

Sorry for this but again as I've explained there are lots of things to coordinate and to ensure that no mistakes are made I'm not rushing anyone. Should be wrapped up soon.

Also, I'm going to be going on a short trip this week so even if the parts are complete I won't be able to start shipping until next weekend when I get back.

Thanks for the patience.

I've been prepping and painting brackets today and I will do a few more each day until all are complete. I am still missing a few bolt studs that are on backorder for the front kits. I have enough to fill almost all the orders that are paid in full right now I think, and as I get the studs in I will fill and ship the remainder.
